Brake Press Operator


POSITION OVERVIEW: This position is responsible for the fabrication department’s daily setup and operation of our Bystronic Xact Smart 225 Press Brake. The associate will also assist other fashions of the fabrication department with any of their daily duties including powder coating, area housekeeping, maintenance work, and material staging. To ensure success as an operator, you should have knowledge of industrial metalwork, basic computer skills, a good eye for detail, and excellent mathematical skills. Ultimately, a top-class operator expertly constructs high-quality products to exact specifications. This position requires the ability to work unsupervised to a deadline and manage jobs from start to finish. They assist the Fabrication Coordinator in scheduling, assigning work, and ensuring maximum efficiency. They also provide adherence to safety rules and practices.


Program or operate Bystronic Xact Smart 225 Press Brake to produce materials according to specifications and on scheduleInspect the materials produced for quality and conformity; correct any inconsistenciesDetect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisorMaintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulationsPerform prescribed preventative maintenance on machines as required


Some drawing and reading comprehension skillsMeasuring and marking out cuttingSetting up metalworking equipment including drill presses, flame cutters (plasma/laser)Checking designs specifications before commencing with cutting worFamiliarity with sheet metal flat patterns preferredPossess some knowledge of and ability to identify fabrication industry metalsPerforming quality checks on completed productsContinuous training and support for the fabrication departmentAssist the Fabrication Coordinator in setting up a daily scheduleCheck stock and order shop material for inventoryEmphasize good habits such as cleanliness, organization, and keeping a clear list of items to stay busy

Physical Requirements:

This position may require constant standing and frequent walking, kneeling, bending, crouching, and twistingWorking in machine building also requires constant cervical flexion, the chin-to-chest movement. Maximum lifting weight can reach about 50 lbs, maximum carrying weight is about 30 lbs, and the maximum pushing and pulling weight can reach 100-150 lbsFrequent forward and lateral reach may be required, as well as frequent grasping, handling, and pinching. Working in this position requires a strong ability to work alone and self supervise as well as the ability to supervise othersIt also requires handling attention to detail, tight deadlines, responsibility and accountability, and the ability to multitask.
