Workforce Development Manager

Summary

The Workforce Development Manager is responsible for leading and implementing workforce development initiatives aimed at strengthening Van Wert County’s talent pipeline. This individual will serve as the primary liaison between local industries, school systems, and workforce partners to align workforce skills with industry needs. Additionally, this role will oversee the management and promotion of the Van Wert Works website and social media channels to enhance engagement and awareness of workforce opportunities. 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Workforce Development Manager will collaborate with Van Wert County school districts, local businesses, and workforce development organizations to implement and enhance programs that prepare the county’s emerging workforce. This position will also lead digital outreach efforts to effectively market workforce initiatives, job opportunities, and educational resources through the Van Wert Works website and social media platforms. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Workforce Development & Business Engagement: 

  • Develop and implement programs that equip the local workforce with skills needed by Van Wert County businesses. 
  • Conduct industry visits to assess current and future workforce needs. 
  • Assist in developing a five-year strategic plan to ensure a skilled workforce for economic growth. 
  • Market local job opportunities to current students and job seekers through various outreach strategies. 
  • Partner with career placement offices, workforce agencies, and private job placement companies to enhance employment opportunities. 
  • Expand school-to-work initiatives that connect students with local businesses and career pathways. 
  • Foster increased collaboration between businesses, educators, and job seekers to strengthen workforce development efforts. 
  • Advocate for workforce trends and skill development initiatives that benefit the local economy. 
  • Support business expansion and attraction efforts by ensuring a pipeline of qualified candidates. 

Marketing & Digital Engagement: 

  • Manage and maintain the Van Wert Works website, ensuring that job postings, resources, and content remain up to date and relevant. 
  • Develop and execute a content strategy for Van Wert Works’ social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, and other relevant channels. 
  • Create and share engaging digital content that promotes workforce development initiatives, job opportunities, industry trends, and success stories. 
  • Track website and social media engagement metrics to optimize outreach efforts. 
  • Collaborate with businesses and educators to highlight career opportunities and workforce training programs through digital storytelling and online campaigns. 

Community & Regional Coordination: 

  • Coordinate workforce development efforts with surrounding counties and regional economic development groups when appropriate. 
  • Recommend and facilitate training opportunities for job seekers and businesses. 
  • Work closely with the Economic Development Director to maintain and expand investor support for workforce initiatives. 
Experience

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: 

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse audiences. 
  • Ability to effectively develop and promote workforce programs that align with industry needs. 
  • Experience in managing digital content, websites, and social media platforms for professional outreach. 
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with businesses, schools, and workforce development organizations. 
  • Comfortable speaking to groups and facilitating partnerships. 
  • Strong organizational and strategic planning skills. 
  • Knowledge of workforce development programs, including Ohio Means Jobs, Job and Family Services, and other employment agencies.
