Van Wert Middle School / Van Wert High School are seeking a Middle School Band & Music Teacher / Assistant HS Band Director to begin in the 2026–2027 school year. This position includes 25 extended summer days as per the contract.
This role is primarily responsible for directing the 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade band program at the middle school level. There is room for creativity with the 7th-grade general music class. The selected candidate will also assist the high school band director with the HS band programs. In turn, the high school band director will collaborate with and assist the middle school director, particularly with the 6th and 7th-grade bands.
The ideal candidate will…
- Hold a valid Ohio K–12 Music certification
- Be a woodwind specialist (preferred, but not required)
- Have a strong desire to be active in Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) activities
- Exhibit strong musicianship and conducting skills
- Demonstrate the ability to build strong, positive relationships with students through successful recruitment and retention techniques
- Demonstrate an understanding of the strengths and needs of middle school students
- Creatively develop and implement curriculum for middle school music classes
- Work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
- Demonstrate a desire to join a positive forward-thinking successful band culture and bring new ideas while working as a teammate
- Demonstrate a willingness to share in the administrative/secretarial duties of the band program
- Support instruction and student growth across grades 6–12, including concert band, marching band, small ensembles, and individual instruction
