Driver (part time)- for out of town transports

The Van Wert County Council on Aging has an as-per-needed, part-time driver position available. The position works approximately 15 hours per week but may be more or less based on consumer demands. Per Needed part-time driver position description: The role of the van driver is to transport clients to essential community facilities and resources, such as medical appointments, pharmacies, banking, grocery stores, and other service agencies. The primary transportation of clients within this position will occur outside of Van Wert County. Drivers must be confident in driving within a city environment with heavier traffic patterns. An example of a type of transport would be taking a client to an appointment at Lima Memorial Hospital in Lima, Ohio, or transporting a client to an appointment in Columbus, Ohio. At times, the per-needs driver position will operate the in-town transportation routes. Training and required testing is paid for by the VWCCOA. Drivers transport consumers in agency-supplied vehicles.

Per Ohio Department of Aging requirements, prospective applicants must be able to pass a Department of Transportation Physical and Drug and Alcohol Screening, pass the State of Ohio and Federal background check, and have a clean driving record.

Experience

Must have a valid driver’s license and having and maintaining an excellent driving record are a must. Must be at least 21 years of age or older. Must pass a basic physical that indicates their health poses no issues in transporting consumers. Must pass a Federal and State background check. Must pass a drug and alcohol screening. Must complete passenger assistance training, and defensive driver training, as well as complete CPR and First Aid training. All screenings and training are paid for by the Council on Aging. The agency transports individuals Monday through Friday.

With the agency being a non profit charity, the hourly pay is $11.00 per hour.
