The Nursing Administrator is responsible for maintaining efficient and effective operations of nursing units/hospitals by providing direction for patient care services and support for all hospital departments. He/She contributes to administrative functioning of nursing services by reviewing staffing, reassigning, and allocating staff as appropriate to meet changing patient care needs. A Nursing Administrator serves as a clinical resource and role model to nursing staff, ensures safe and equitable working environments, and uses information systems to retrieve, implement, and retain essential records and services. This role interacts with internal and external customers by serving as a resource for information and problem solving, along with serving as a liaison between nursing services and other hospital departments for problem solving and resolution. The Nursing Administrator coordinates and/or assists with activities during internal and external emergency situations.
The Nursing Administrator is in a leadership position, supervising employees throughout the hospital and related departments, and has significant influence throughout the organization in the achievement of organizational goals. Thus, the behaviors expected from this role are of the highest level of accountability, integrity, and professionalism.
