Job hours: The Wastewater Collection Department is accepting applications for full time position of a Construction Maintenance Worker I. This is a first shift job along with on-call hours on weekends and holidays.
Knowledge of the position: The departmental goals, objectives, policies and procedures; safety practices and procedures; wastewater treatment plant operating procedures; wastewater treatment regulations; custodial methods and techniques; general construction, maintenance, and repair; sewer construction, maintenance and repair; inventory control; records preparation and management.
Essential Functions of the position: Performs sewer maintenance functions; sprays weeds; maintains and operates sewer maintenance equipment and facilities; complies with standard safety procedures when entering sewers and other confined spaces.
Operates light equipment to perform construction, maintenance, and repair activities (e.g. loader, small roller, etc.)
Performs wastewater collection functions; repair and replaces defective water and gas line; measures sludge in final and primary tanks; shovels sludge; hauls and dumps sludge; collects river samples for lab analyst; unloads bag polymers and loads polymer mixer; operates scum screen; cleans weirs; pumps scum pits; cleans air headers.
Performs facility, equipment, and supplies functions; performs periodic inspections of facility and equipment; maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; unloads, transports, and stores supplies; performs minor repairs of facility and equipment (e.g. electrical, carpentry, plumbing, etc.); performs preventative maintenance and routine cleaning and maintenance and routine cleaning and maintenance of facility and equipment.
Performs emergency functions; notifies Superintendent of emergency situations; communicates with Supervisor regarding problems and emergencies, received and responds to calls for emergency assistance at all times and often in inclement weather and/or hazardous situations.
Performs record functions; maintains record of work completed; maintains inventory records.
Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
Experience/Certification Required: Must possess or obtain a Commercial Driver’s License and obtain state certification for Wastewater Collection License through OEPA.
Pay and Benefits: The starting pay is $20.87 an hour, annual leave includes vacation, holidays, personal and sick time. The City offers medical, vision, dental, and life insurance plans and pension through the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System.
