Description:
The Admission Specialist is responsible for developing, managing and implementing systems, particularly inquiry/intake calls, patient screenings, admissions and contracts with utilization reviewers and case managers. He/she is also responsible for wokring with the admissions and facility staff to assure exceptional patient and community satisfaction, and in developing and achieving community education and awareness goals.
Responsibilities:
Review and responds to incoming community-based inquires regarding inpatient care.
Processes patient referral form on an emergancy or tentatively scheduled basis.Interviews patient or significant other regarding precipitating events; obtains demographic, family, in-service, employment information; and completes admissions forms.
Contacts appropriate clinical staff for continued assessment; consults with above regarding patinet’s chief compliantFollows up with clinical staff for continued assessment; consults with able regarding patient’s chief complaint.
Contacts and assists in contacting in-service companies, referral services, nursing homes and other community agencies, prospective admits and significant others whenever possible.
Makes addressograph plates and wrist bands for new admissions
Prepares appropriate hospital and insurance forms; obtain required signatures of patient, physician, family, insurance participant, etc; makes follow-up contacts and arranges meetings to finalize signatures and complete all necessary compilation of data.
Checks and verifies data on new admissions via the Business Office; maintains admission records of inpatient and former patients; maintains data and status of current inpatients; keeps daily discharge log and types discharge list and census report.
Preparation and distribution of daily census.
Responds and assists in codes and hospital emergencies
Perfoms special projects or other related work as required or requested
Shows ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner
Demonstrates ability to work with othersAdapt to changing situations or work assignments
Education:
High School gratuate or GED. Some College Preferred. 1 to 3 years experience in health care, preferably in mental health
Work Experience:
Six months of relevant experience in a psychiatric setting Twelve months of relevant experience in an acute care and/or nursing home facility may be substituted for experience in a psychiatric setting preferred but not required.
